NavNet’s latest free software update unlocks new programs that deliver hyperlocal weather forecasting, AI modeling, and sonar overlay.
With so much interconnected hardware on today’s boat systems, something as seemingly simple as a software update can deliver powerful new features. Furuno proves that big-time with the 25th update of its popular NavNet TZtouchXL software.
Version 25 introduces Dynamic Mooring, a new feature designed to enhance time spent on the hook. By integrating current, weather forecasting, date and timeframe, and topography data, Dynamic Mooring will highlight potential anchorage areas with green for protected, orange for partially protected, and red for unprotected. The visualization is overlaid right on your chartplotter, and when you zoom in under a mile, you’ll see wind direction arrows indicating changes in wind direction through the mooring period.
Another brand-new feature is TZ Weather, which allowing users to select forecast duration, resolution, and data models tailored to their needs. Forecast modeling comes from the NOAA Global Forecast System, but a premium subscription ($10/month) adds the ICON, NAM CONUS, Arpege, and AROME forecasting models. SiriusXM Weather can be integrated, and the system can be set to download the latest weather data on startup.
Anglers running the CSH10 Omni sonar also get a new feature with v.25. The sonar automatically integrates and unlocks a sonar display on the MFD with range, tilt, gain, and additional control. Better yet, the sonar returns can now be overlaid in real time directly over your chart view. That means you can see the returns as they relate to charted obstructions, wrecks, bathymetric contours, and other fish-attracting structure.
